President Kathran Martin originally designed AFS as "an inverted
pyramid." A traditional marketing company funnels everyone in
the front door and has him or her deal with their "marketing
person." Eventually, a few producers work their way to the top
of the pyramid and then have some contact with the real experts.
At AFS, the principals initially contact all producers. That allows
all parties to get to know each other and to figure out the best ways
to work together. The rest of the AFS team takes away the nonmarketing
burdens so our senior team members can spend quality time working
on marketing and sales issues with the producers. For example, don't
make the mistake of asking one of the principals which forms to use
or how to fill them out. They will send you to one of our internal
experts.
The most important trait of a top producer is their ability to listen
and question the client. You'll find that you get asked many more
questions by AFS because they apply the experience and expertise they
have acquired over the last three decades to their work with you.
Top producers will tell you that many times those questions lead to
some of the most creative and solid solutions they have ever received
from a members organization.
